At Nine

 

Childhood is a prominent theme in my work. I try not to be nostalgic and instead, focus on impressions. It’s a deceptively simple time, and yet, it has its turbulences and interior muddlings.  A tenuous combination of freedom, discovery, peers, kinship, and destiny that compose who we ultimately become. 
 We want to go up, grow up, move forward, climb higher. We get told to get down. Settle down. We climb to see how far we can go, and jump and find our way down. Our energy reaches and scatters in so many direction, but we’re
